CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's tennis team earned its first Big South Conference win of the season with a 5-2 home victory over Gardner-Webb on Wednesday.

PC improves to 11-10 on the year and 1-2 in league action. Gardner-Webb moves to 5-11 and 0-4 in conference play.

The Blue Hose swept the Runnin' Bulldogs in doubles before collecting four singles wins, including two at the top two flights.

Rafael Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) and William O'Connell (Nadi, Fiji) rebounded from their only loss together on Sunday by handling Korhan Ates and Adam Knutsson-Sundblad at the top flight, 8-3. The two ran their record together to 8-1 with the win.

At No. 2, Zachary Sprouse (Hilton Head, S.C.) and Andrew Brigham (Birmingham, England) held off Matthew Parker and Ernest Alberch, 8-6. The closet doubles match came at No. 3, where Edward Snead IV (Greenwood, S.C.) and Nathan Crocker (Clinton, S.C.) battled to a 9-8 win over Stephen Martin and Roman Piftor.

In singles play, Mills got the nod for PC at No. 1 and the sophomore cruised to 6-4, 6-4 win over Korhan Ates. At No. 2, Berghaus grabbed his 12^th win of the season thanks to a gutty 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Knutsson-Sundblad.

At the fourth flight, O'Connell pulled out a three-set win over Alberch, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4. Brigham also came through at the fifth flight, dispatching Joao Poli by a 7-5, 6-2 margin.

PC's two losses both came in hard-fought, three-set contests. Sprouse dropped a third-flight decision to Piftor, 4-6, 6-0, 7-5, and Gonzalo Asis (Madrid, Spain) came up short to Brendan Dempsey, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

The Blue Hose return to action on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match at Coastal Carolina.
