CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women's tennis team fell to Charleston Southern on Saturday at the Templeton Tennis Courts, 6-1.
PC moves to 7-10 on the year and 0-4 in Big South Conference play. Charleston Southern improves to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in league action.
Lindsay Krause (Roswell, Ga.) earned the lone win for the Blue Hose, knocking off Chanel Bell at No. 6 in a thriller. Krause dropped the first set, 6-1, but took the second by a 7-5 margin. With the dual match already decided, the two played to a 10-point tiebreaker that Krause held on to win, 10-5.
The day saw several close matches. Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.) faced off against Susita Das at No. 5 and fell behind after the first set, 7-6 (7-5). deLoach won the second set, 7-5, but dropped a marathon 10-point tiebreaker, 11-9. The Blue Hose freshman faced five match points before Das finally emerged with the win.
Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) and Cara Caruso (Roswell, Ga.) dropped three-set matches at No. 3 and No. 2, respectively. Ransom came up short against Yvonne Hubler, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1, while Caruso stumbled against Angelica Sidorenko, 6-1, 1-6, 6-1.
At No. 1, Olga Makhova topped Paige Oelke (Athens, Ga.), 6-0, 6-0, while Alexandra Walters won over Patricia Alves (Campinas, Brazil) at the fourth flight, 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles action, Oelke and Alves fell to Walters and Hubler at the top flight, 8-4. At No. 2, deLoach and Ransom suffered a setback against Das and Makhova, 8-3, while Krause and Caruso lost a hard-fought battle to Sidorenko and Alia Nour, 8-5.
The team returns to action on Sunday with a road contest at Coastal Carolina. Both the PC men's and women's teams take on the Chanticleers in Conway, S.C., at 1 p.m.
