Football Holds Annual Spring Game

The Presbyterian College football team took to the field this morning at Bailey memorial Stadium for the annual Spring Game.

The Blue Hose ran various plays this morning from the opposition's 35-yard line, 50-yard line, their own 35-yard line and 10-yard line.  PC ran different punting and kick-off schemes.

Ryan Singer led off the scrimmage with a short pass to Arthur Williams and two plays later threw a nice pass to Jeremiah Mckie, who couldn't hang after being hit by L.J. Perry, who had several impressive tackles on the day.

After Demarcus Rouse ran the ball on back-to-back plays for a total of 11 yards, Tamyn Garrick came in and threw a solid 20-yard pass to Joey Gilkey.  The PC defense stepped up the next play and sacked Garrick for a loss of four to end the first series for PC.

Shawn Armstrong showed improvement during spring practice and it showed during the spring game, leading the third series for the Blue Hose with three runs for a total of seven hard-fought yards.

The fourth series saw Rouse come in for a nine-yard rush before being taken down in the next play by Perry with another impressive stop.  Anderico Bailey caught a 14-yard pass from Garrick two plays later, but after he had a pass deflected by Alonzo Jackson. He fumbled the ball, which was recovered by DaRon Dickey.

Two series later Singer came back in and aired the ball to Williams, who made an impressive jump to catch the 32-yard pass.  Two plays later Singer handed the ball off to McKie at the 21-yard line and ran it in for the touchdown.

J.T. Palmer had a solid performance in the next series, going 14 yards off a hand-off.  The play stalled after that with Breyon Williams sacking the quarterback.

Joel Ruiz saw some time several series later, pitching the ball to Seth Moreland who ran it 11 yards.

Jeremy Tommie, who connected on a successful PAT earlier, hit a 21-yard field goal in the next series.

From the 10-yard line in the next series, Moreland posted two carries for nine yards to advance the ball to the one-yard line.  Armstrong ran it in for the score the next play.

Bailey would get his chance for a touchdown in the next series, after running it in from the one-yard ling.  He was set up by a nine-yard pass from Garrick to Rouse.

After roughly 65 plays, the team huddled up at midfield and the spring game was done.

Defensive standouts included Perry, Rossi Thompson, Dickey, Marshall and Isaiah Lynn.

PC opens up the 2012 season at home Sept. 1 against Brevard.
