CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women's soccer team took a 1-0 lead late into the final period against South Carolina State on scrimmage action on Tuesday night, but a Bulldog goal in the closing minutes sent both teams home with a 1-1 tie.
Stephanie Allen (Augusta, Ga.) put the home side in front in the final 30-minute period, converting on a Brittany Whitson (Conyers, Ga.) cross into the box. Allen threatened to score several times on the night while Tori Lopez (Snellville, Ga.) showed no signs of rust in creating attacking chances in the Bulldog end.
Every member of the Blue Hose roster saw action on the night. Goalkeeper Jordan Broadway (Chapin, S.C.) played the first 45 minutes and made several acrobatic saves to keep the game scoreless before freshman keeper Sydney Fontenot (Austin, Texas) entered the game and provided composure in the goal box during several frantic situations.
SC State equalized with less than seven minutes remaining, ripping a shot from outside the box and into the left side of the net.
The match marks PC's only preseason action of the season and the Blue Hose begin the campaign on August 21 at Francis Marion.
