CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women's soccer team dropped a close road non-conference match on Thursday night, falling to Wofford, 1-0.
PC moves to 0-4-0 on the year. Wofford improves to 2-1-0.
An early second half goal gave the Terriers their only score in a close matchup.
PC goalkeeper Jordan Broadway (Chapin, S.C.) made four saves on the night, stopping two shots in each half.
The Blue Hose kept Wofford off of the scoreboard in the
opening period and worked to create attacking chances. Broadway stopped a hard
shot 36 seconds after the opening whistle and made another save in the 35th
minute to take the teams into halftime tied, 0-0.
PC created an opportunity with a corner kick late in the
period, but a low cross from Sophie Cobb (Columbia, S.C., pictured above) stayed out of the
net.
The Terriers struck shortly after halftime, as Emily Bougas
finished a breakaway with a shot into the bottom right corner of the net to put
Wofford ahead 1:03 into the half, 1-0.
Catie Smith (Greenville, S.C.), Sara Simpson (Columbia,
S.C.) and other Blue Hose pushed the ball deep into the Wofford end midway
through the second half but could not convert.
A pair of corner kicks resulted in a blocked shot for Rebecca
Miller (Pauline, S.C.) but PC found another chance minutes later, when Cobb
ripped a shot from outside the box that goalkeeper Erika Christensen had to
dive to stop.
The Blue Hose continued to push the ball at the Wofford net,
creating four corner kicks in a 15-minute span late in the game. PC also held the home side without a corner kick on the evening.
PC heads home for its Edens Field at Martin Stadium debut on Sunday, hosting Furman at 7 p.m. The game will also be streamed on the Big South Network.
