Women's Soccer Comes Up Short Against Radford, 2-0

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought contest to the visiting Radford Highlanders on Thursday night, 2-0.

PC (0-10-0, 0-3-0 Big South) hung tough with Radford (6-2-1, 2-0-1 Big South) and created several chances, but a Highlander goal in each half gave the Highlanders the win.

Both Radford goals came from long, hard shots that found the top of the net. Kara Nay opened the scoring with a successful 35-yard shot in the 18th minute and Megan Rhodes added another in the 70th minute on a chance from outside the goal box.

Jordan Broadway (Chapin, S.C.) made four saves in the match, stopping three shots in the first half and one in the second.

Stephanie Allen (Augusta, Ga.), Sara Simpson (Columbia, S.C.), Rebecca Miller (Pauline, S.C.) and Keri O'Neill (Peachtree City, Ga.) each tested Radford goalkeeper Che' Brown with a shot on goal.

The Blue Hose matched the Highlanders in shots in the second half, with five, and drew four corner kicks in the final stanza.

The first half saw action on both ends of the pitch. Simpson and Allen both forced Brown to make saves on chances in the first 23 minutes, as Allen launched a rocket that Brown had to dive for to keep out of the net.

Sophie Cobb (Columbia, S.C.) made a solid run from the back line early in the game to set up Simpson's shot on goal. Cobb played all 90 minutes, joining Brittany Whitson (Conyers, Ga.), Alice Blackwell (Marietta, S.C.) and Allen in never leaving the field while holding Radford under its scoring average for the season.

Hannah Gaither (Statesville, N.C.) kept Radford's lead at one when she blocked and cleared a Kim Harkins shot off the goal line in the 25th minute.

O'Neill laced a hard shot of her own into Brown shortly after halftime, playing a ball from the left side of the box in search of an equalizer.

PC stays at home for its next match, a Big South Conference tilt against VMI on Saturday at 2 p.m.
