BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Presbyterian College women's soccer team picked up its second straight win on Wednesday by blanking the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs on the road, 1-0.
PC improves to 8-7-0 overall and 5-4-0 in the Big South, both program-bests since moving to Division I in 2007. The Blue Hose return home to host High Point on Saturday night at 7 p.m. and a Senior Night ceremony will begin 15 minutes before kickoff. Gardner-Webb falls to 3-13-1 and 1-8-0 in the Big South.
Tori Lopez (Snellville, Ga.) scored 3:21 into in the match on a Sara Simpson (Columbia, S.C.) assist for the game's lone goal. Simpson beat the Gardner-Webb defense at the top of the box and fed Lopez for the score.
The goal marks Lopez's fourth in the past two games and gives her a team-leading eight for the year. Simpson's helper marks her third of the year.
From there, the PC defense and goalkeeping tandem took over to make the goal stand up as the game-winner. Goalkeepers Jordan Broadway (Chapin, S.C.) and Sydney Fontenot (Austin, Texas) each played one half to earn their second straight combined shutout. Each keeper stopped one shot.
PC outshot Gardner-Webb, 18-8, and created five corner kick opportunities to Gardner-Webb's one. Six PC Blue Hose played all 90 minutes in the victory, including Christy Schofer (Powder Springs, Ga.), Stephanie Allen (Augusta, Ga.), Simpson, Emily McCord (Asheville, N.C.), Hannah Gaither (Statesville, N.C.) and Brittany Whitson (Conyers, Ga.).
Kelly Kozera (Rome, Ga.) led PC with five shots. Kristen Peagler (Lithonia, Ga.) put two shots on frame to lead PC in that category. Shelby Hooe took three shots to lead the home Runnin' Bulldogs.
