The Terriers rushed for over 400 yards, scoring six touchdowns on the ground, en route to a 55-14 win over the Presbyterian College football team this afternoon at Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Blue Hose fall to 1-4 and open Big South play in two weeks against VMI at Bailey Stadium Oct. 19. Wofford improves to 3-2 on the year.
PC recorded 85 yards on the ground and were led by Blake Roberts with a career-high 50 yards off five carries and one touchdown, his career first, and Seth Moreland, who rushed for 31 yards off seven touches. Kaleb Griffin completed 16-of-25 passes for 92 yards, his primary receivers in the game Tobi Antigha with four catches for 33 yards and Joey Gilkey with four catches as well for 28 yards and one touchdown. In all, PC came away with 187 total yards, 102 from the air and 85 on the ground.
Jeremiah McKie, who had two receptions in the game, paced the team in all-purpose yards with 135, 118 coming off kick returns.
Breyon Williams recorded a career-high 15 tackles to lead the Blue Hose defensively, with Fred Marshall following with a career-high tying eight tackles. DaRon Dickey and Keyadd Miller both recorded a sack each, with Ugonna Akoh posting two tackles for a loss of three total yards. Joaquin Ross recovered a career-high two fumbles as well.
Wofford, led by Donovan Johnson with 98 yards rushing and one touchdown, posted 411 yards on the ground and 92 yards in the air for 503 yards of total offense. Mike McCrimon and Alvin Scioneaux each recorded seven tackles to pace the Terriers defensively.
Johnny Martin put Wofford on the board with a four-yard run that capped off an 81-yard, 15 play drive that used just under six minutes on the clock.
On Wofford's next possession, Evan Jacks broke through the PC goal line defense to notch the team's second score and complete the nine-play, 76-yard drive to make it a 14-0 contest with 12:09 to go in the second quarter.
PC was forced to put on its next possession, giving the Terriers the ball on the Wofford 45-yard line. On the first play, Michael Weimer fumbled the ball, which was recovered by Ross, his career first, who ran it back 32 yards to the Terrier 10-yard line. Three plays later, Griffin hit Joey Gilkey in the right corner of the end zone for the nine-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to seven, 14-7, with 7:33 to go before halftime.
Wofford responded with an eight-play 65-yard scoring drive, highlighted by a 31-yard carry by Ray Smith and capped by a two-yard rush by Caleb Lucas, to increase the lead to 14, 21-7, at 5:41 on the clock.
The Blue Hose took over at their own 31-yard line but were unable to move the football, and punted to the Terriers with Wofford taking over at the 40-yard line. Weimer rushed for 11 yards and then threw to Will Irwin for another 29 yards to give the Terriers a 27-7 lead (after a failed PAT) with just under four minutes to go in the half.
PC took the ball 23 yards in its following possession, which included a 10-yard catch by Tobi Antigha, but could not get any further. Wofford took over to end the half as the Blue Hose headed to the locker room trailing 27-7.
Wofford opened the third quarter with a 10-play, 65-yard drive which resulted in a touchdown by Will Gray off a four-yard rush. Highlighting the drive were two 11-yard rushes by Gay and another 11-yard carry by Martin. The Terriers would score on their next possession with a two-yard rush by Donovan Johnson, capping a 14-play, 78-yard drive to give the Wofford the 41-7 lead.
The Blue Hose took over at their own 47-yard line after the kick-off, but a Griffin interception to McCrimon ended the drive as Wofford ended the third quarter with the ball and leading 41-7.
Ross notched his second fumble recovery of the game, this one to open the fourth quarter and give PC the ball on its 41-yard line. Griffin's pass, two plays later, was intercepted with Hunter Thurley returning the catch 36 yards to put Wofford up 48-7.
Wofford scored its 55th point off another interception, this one from Tamyn Garrick with under nine to play in the game. The Terriers scored a play later with Lorenzo Long taking the carry 22 yards for the score.
PC put together a 12-play, 75-yard drive late in the fourth quarter. Blake Roberts saw several plays, including a 23-yard run and a three-yard TD run to make it the eventual 55-14 final.
