FARMVILLE, Va. – The Presbyterian College men's soccer team dropped a nail-biter on the road Saturday at Longwood, falling to the Lancers by a 1-0 margin.
PC moves to 3-13-0 on the year and 1-7-0 in the Big South Conference. The Blue Hose stay on the road to face High Point on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Longwood improves to 7-6-3 and 6-2-1 in league action.
In a strong defensive effort for both sides, Longwood's Anthony Ugorji scored the match's lone goal in the 79th minute. The Lancer headed in a corner cross from Daena Bodie to put the home side ahead for good with 11:53 remaining.
PC's Ian Dempsey (Madison, Ala.) led the Blue Hose with two shots, both on goal in the second half. Charles Blankenship (Collierville, Tenn.) added another shot for PC.
Blue Hose goalkeeper Tyler Beadle (Douglasville, Ga.) made two saves in the effort.  The Blue Hose only allowed 10 total shots, including three on goal.
PC's best opportunities came early in the second, with Dempsey's tests of Longwood goalkeeper Carlos Canas. The freshman headed one on goal in the 50th minute following a Lancer yellow card—one of the team's four—to set up a free kick and shot another on Canas a little over two minutes later. Blankenship's shot in the 83rd minute sailed high.
Ugorji led Longwood with four shots and the goal. Michael Margulis and Philip Van Berkom also each added a shot on goal.
The Lancers attack pushed up frequently, but the Blue Hose back line caught the Longwood forwards for seven offside violations.
