RADFORD, Va. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team dropped a Big South Conference road match at Radford on Friday, 5-2.
PC moves to 7-11 on the year and 0-5 in the Big South while Radford improves to 4-11 and 1-4 in league action. The Blue Hose wrap up their road trek on Monday at Gardner-Webb in a 2 p.m. matchup.
Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.) and Courtney Gardiner (Powder Springs, Ga.) each picked up singles wins for the Blue Hose.
deLoach won a battle at the third flight against Hana Babic. The Blue Hose sophomore won the first set, 6-1, before Babic took the second, 3-6. deLoach pushed past Babic in the final set to clinch the win, 6-2.
Gardiner delivered a fourth-flight win in straight sets over Meg Napolitano for her first Big South win of the season in a 7-5, 6-4 verdict.
With the dual match result decided, Lindsay Krause (Roswell, Ga.) nearly came through with a win at No. 5. Krause took on Taylor Fay and came up short in a marathon, 6-4, 6-7 (1-7), 1-0 (10-7).
deLoach and Kayla Stanford (Canton, Ga.) picked up a doubles win at No. 3 against Fay and Allison Michael, 8-2.
In other singles action, Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) fell to Taylor Newman at the top flight, 6-1, 6-2, while Gemma Valls bested Patricia Alves (Campinas, Brazil) at No. 2, 7-5, 6-3.
At the sixth flight, Lucia Leahy (Charlotte, N.C.) dropped a sixth-flight match to Michael, 6-3, 6-2.
