CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team dropped its home finale to UNC Asheville on Wednesday, falling by a 6-1 margin.
The Blue Hose move to 7-15 on the season and 0-8 in the Big South while UNC Asheville improves to 11-9 and 4-5 in league action. PC ends the regular season on Saturday at Longwood in a 1 p.m. match before traveling to the Big South Conference Women's Championship on Thursday, April 18, in Rock Hill, S.C. UNC Asheville hosts King on Thursday, April 11 at 2 p.m.
After the match, the Blue Hose honored senior Lindsay Krause (Roswell, Ga.). The three-time team captain earned several Big South Conference All-Academic Team selections and was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete while leading the squad to a Division I-era high in wins as a team last season.
Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) earned a top-flight win against Zoe Hamel in a battle. The Blue Hose sophomore won the first set, 6-4, before Hamel took the second, 3-6. With the match's result decided, Ransom won the 10-point tiebreaker in a 10-8 verdict. The result gave Ransom her ninth singles win of the season.
PC also took a match in doubles action. Haley Elliott (Greenville, S.C.) and Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.) earned a hard-fought victory at No. 3 against Gillian Lewis and Amryn Soldier, 8-6.
deLoach dropped a tough match at the third flight in three sets. The Blue Hose sophomore recovered from an opening-set 6-4 loss with a 6-2 win in the second. Opponent Erickia Rivero prevailed in the third, however, 6-1.
