Softball Falls to Radford

Radford scored four runs in the second inning and held the Presbyterian College softball team to just two hits en route to the 6-1 win in the final game of a three-game Big South series this afternoon at the PC Softball Complex in Clinton, S.C.

The Blue Hose drop to 19-23 overall and 5-10 in the Big South, while the Highlanders improve to 16-23, 9-6.  PC travels to Columbia, S.C., this Tuesday, April 16 for a game with the South Carolina Gamecocks at 6 p.m., before heading to Coastal Carolina for a three-game series beginning Saturday, April 20.

Kensley Loudermelk threw 3.0 innings and picked up the loss (10-11) after surrendering five runs off five hits.  Rachel Walters started for Radford and went 6.0 innings, giving up just one run and two hits with four strikeouts for the win (12-7).

Ryndee Ruch led Radford after going two-for-three for two RBI, which included a two-run double in the second inning.  Morgan Eye only had one hit on the day, but it was a big one as she hit a solo shot in the second for Radford's first run of the day.  Becky Mantel collected a RBI as well, with a sacrifice bunt to drive in Ruch to make it 4-1 in favor of the Highlanders.

Agee, who went two-for-four, singled up the middle in third and sent home Emily Naegele for the fifth run.  Megan Honaker, who went two-for-three on the day, singled to third with one out in the sixth and came home for the sixth run off a RBI single from Hilari Hopins.

In the first inning Cat Tarvin provided the lone RBI of the day for PC after flying out to center for the sacrifice and bringing home Tera Powell, who led off the game with a base hit to left.  Jill McLean recorded a single the next at-bat for the team's only other hit.
