Softball Splits Doubleheader with Campbell

Presbyterian College blasted three home runs, two coming from Erin Ruff, en route to a 6-2 win in the opening game of a doubleheader with Campbell this afternoon at the PC Softball Complex in Clinton, S.C.  The camels scored seven runs in the first two innings of game two to take the 9-4 win and earn the series win, two games to one.

PC moved to 18-19 overall and 4-6 in the Big South, while Campbell improved to 26-13, 10-3.  PC is next in action this Tuesday, April 9, when it hosts Gardner Webb in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

Ruff was the hero in game one, going two-for two with four RBI.  Her home run in the first inning was a three-run shot that put the Blue Hose up, 3-1.  She added a solo shot in the third, along with Kirby Legacki, to give PC a 5-1 lead.  Legacki's sacrifice fly in the fifth earned the Blue Hose their final run of the game.  She drove in Ruff, who reached on a walk, her fourth of the day.

Campbell scored its second run of the game in the fifth when Camise Patterson, in her first at-bat of the day, hit a solo shot over the right field wall.

Cat Tarvin earned the win for PC (4-1) after throwing 4.2 innings and giving up just two runs off four hits.  Sydney Seigler came in for 2.1 innings and didn't allow a run on two hits for her third save of the season.  Campbell's Brittany Arnn took the loss (4-6) in 2.1 innings of work. She gave up four runs off six hits.

Campbell opened game two with three runs in the first and four in the second to build an early 7-0 lead.  Highlighting the offense was Courtney Klingler, who had a single in each of the two innings, a one RBI shot in the fist and a two RBI shot in the second.  Raven Lee recoded a two-RBI home run in the first as well.

The Camels spaced out their last two runs, with one in the fifth off a RBI double from Ericka Nesbitt, and another one in the sixth off a solo homer run from Olivia Scarborough.

Down seven runs, Shelby Petik knocked over her 10th home run of the season in the second to cut the margin to six.  PC added three more in the third off another hit by Petik, this one a RBI single to left, a wild pitch that saw Tera Powell plate, and by Legacki who earned a RBI after advancing off a Campbell error.

Courtney Roberts picked up the win (14-4), going the distance and surrendering just four runs off seven hits.  Kensley Loudermelk took the loss (9-10) after throwing 1.2 innings, giving up five hits and seven earned runs.

Leading Campbell on the afternoon were Stephanie Jones, Shaela Churchill and Klingler, all of whom went three-for-seven at the plate.
