CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team dropped a Big South Conference match to Campbell on Saturday at the Templeton Tennis Courts, 5-2.
PC moves to 7-13 overall and 0-7 in the Big South while Campbell improves to 8-11 and 6-3 in league action. The Blue Hose stay at home to host Coastal Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m. and Campbell hosts South Carolina State on Monday at 2 p.m.
Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) grabbed a top-flight win for the Blue Hose in a three-set thriller. The sophomore faced off against Karolina Chernaya and took down the Camel 1-6, 6-3, 7-5.
PC's other win came at the fourth flight from Courtney Gardiner (Powder Springs, Ga.). Gardiner picked up her third victory of the season by knocking off Ewa Telenga in a three-set verdict, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Patricia Alves (Campinas, Brazil) put up a battle at the second flight, falling to Tamara Stanic by a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 margin.
In other singles results, Ana Maria Ortiz downed Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.), 6-3, 6-4 at the third flight and Lourdes Ros pushed past Lindsay Krause (Roswell, Ga.), 6-1, 6-0. Lucia Leahy (Charlotte, N.C.) also fell at the sixth flight, 7-5, 6-2.
In doubles action, Kayla Stanford (Canton, Ga.) and deLoach nearly pulled off the win against Telenga and Ros at the third flight but fell short, 8-7 (7-3). Gardiner and Alves also fell by an 8-5 result at the second flight.
