CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team dropped a Big South Conference match at home to Coastal Carolina on Saturday afternoon, 6-1.
PC moves to 7-14 overall and 0-8 in the Big South Conference while Coastal Carolina improves to 10-8 and 5-2 in league action. The Blue Hose next host UNC Asheville on Wednesday at 3 p.m. for the team's Senior Day and Coastal returns home to host Charleston Southern on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.) earned her team-leading 10th singles win of the season and PC's lone victory on the day by toppling Mikaela Davies at the third flight. deLoach bested the Chanticleer in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
The top-flight match saw Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) turn in a close second set before falling to Libby Scott in a 7-3, 7-6 (6-4) verdict. Patricia Alves (Campinas, Brazil) dropped a No. 2 match to Shelby Bates, 7-5, 6-4 and Courtney Gardiner (Powder Springs, Ga.) fell at the fourth flight, 6-2, 6-2.
Coastal took the fifth flight via retirement and Dominque De Wit won over Lucia Leahy (Charlotte, N.C.) at the sixth flight, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles action, Lindsay Krause (Roswell, Ga.) and Ransom nearly took the top-flight match before falling to Kortney Kowal and Bates, 9-7.
