The Presbyterian College football team opens the 2013 season at Wake Forest Thursday, Aug. 29. The game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and will air live on ESPN3.
The Blue Hose and Demon Deacons meet for the second time in four years, the last a 53-13 loss in Winston-Salem. Highlighting the game for PC was a trick play that earned the top spot in ESPN's Top Plays of the Day. The play was a bounce-pass lateral from Brandon Miley to Derrick Overholt, who then threw it to Michael Ruff for a 68-yard touchdown with 3:13 remaining in the second quarter.
Wake Forest owns a 6-4-1 mark in a series dating back to 1926. The Demon Deacons were the first FBS opponent the Blue Hose faced since making the move to NCAA Division I in 2007. PC is 0-5 all-time vs. FBS schools.
The Blue Hose were picked to finish fifth, along with VMI, in the Big South in 2013. The top two pre-season picks are Coastal Carolina (1) and Liberty (2). PC travels to both this season. Gardner Webb, Charleston Southern and VMI, picked third, fourth and tied for fifth, all travel to Clinton.
The Blue Hose are 37-39 against current Big South opponents and hold the advantage over Charleston Southern, 13-7. The Gardner Webb series is knotted 17-17, Coastal Carolina is 5-1, Liberty 6-4 and VMI 4-2.
Leading the team on the field as the 2013 captains are James Festa and Jeremiah McKie on offense, Cory White and Donelle Williams on defense and Cannon Jordan and Breyon Williams on special teams. They were voted to the honorary positions by their teammates at the end of pre-season practice.
PC opens its home slate Sept. 7, against Brevard. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m., at Bailey Memorial Stadium.
