MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team rolled to its third straight victory on Sunday afternoon with a 5-0 win at Alabama State in Montgomery.
PC improves to 3-2-0 while Alabama State falls to 3-5-0. The Blue Hose return home to host Wofford on Friday at 7 p.m.
The result marks PC's first 5-0 win since downing The Citadel by the same score on September 14, 2007.
The Blue Hose tallied three goals in the second half and all five goals came from a different PC player.
Blue Hose goalkeeper Jordan Broadway (Chapin, S.C.) made nine saves for her second shutout in three matches. The senior stopped a penalty shot in the 82nd minute to preserve the clean sheet and stopped five shots in the first half.
Kelly Kozera (Rome, Ga.) kicked off the scoring in the 11th minute for her first goal of the season. Brittany Whitson (Conyers, Ga.) added another before the break, converting on a penalty shot in the 25th minute to put the Blue Hose ahead 2-0 at halftime.
PC's attack ran on all cylinders and posted 13 shots in the first half. Tori Lopez (Snellville, Ga.) and Kristen Peagler (Lithonia, Ga.) each contributed four shots on the afternoon.
Lopez delivered her second goal in as many matches in the 54th minute before Sara Simpson (Columbia, S.C.) did the same on a score in the 73rd minute. Emily Boggus (Conyers, Ga.) scored her first of the season as well by capping the win with a goal 21 seconds before the final whistle
The Blue Hose outshot the Hornets, 25-11, a total that included a 16-9 margin for shots on goal.
