CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team nearly secured a point in its Big South Conference opener on Wednesday night at Radford, but the Highlanders scored with 1:02 left in double overtime to take the win and avoid a draw, 1-0.

PC moves to 3-4-0 and starts league action at 0-1-0. The Blue Hose next travel to UNC Asheville on Saturday for a 1 p.m. conference matchup. Radford improves to 5-1-1 overall, 1-0-0 in the Big South and faces Charleston Southern on the road Saturday at 2 p.m.

Late in the second overtime, Radford's Sydney Golden lifted a service that ricocheted off the post and to Melanie Priestley. The Highlander converted and gave the Highlanders the victory.

PC's best chance in either of the extra periods came on a Stephanie Allen (Augusta, Ga.) corner kick in the second overtime that Brittany Whitson (Conyers, Ga.) pushed just over the crossbar.

Blue Hose goalkeeper Jordan Broadway (Chapin, S.C.) tied a season-high with nine saves in the contest and delivered a solid effort along with the PC back line. The senior frequently challenged attackers on breakaway situations and made five saves in the second half.

Allen and Rebecca Miller (Pauline, S.C.) each tallied two shots apiece. Sara Simpson (Columbia, S.C.) delivered PC's first shot on goal, a hard, low shot on Radford's Che' Brown in the first half. Sophie Cobb (West Columbia, S.C.) picked up a shot on frame as well.

Kia Mattison (Greenville, S.C.) and Keri O'Neill (Peachtree City, Ga.) made their first starts of the season against the defending league champions. Mattison's start marked the first of the freshman's collegiate career.

Brown stopped four shots for Radford and Sahar Aflaki's four shots led the team on offense.
