ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team picked up its first Big South Conference win of the season on Saturday by blanking UNC Asheville on the road in a 1-0 victory.
PC improves to 4-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the Big South. The Blue Hose next face Charleston Southern away Wednesday at 4 p.m. before returning home to start a four-match homestand. UNC Asheville moves to 5-5-0 and 1-1-0 in league play. The Bulldogs next host Liberty on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
Rachael Parks (Bogart, Ga.) scored PC's lone goal for the first of her collegiate career. The junior converted a beautiful cross from freshman Kristen Peagler (Lithonia, Ga.) into the box and tapped the ball in to go ahead in the 35th minute. Peagler's assist marked her first collegiate helper.
PC goalkeeper Sydney Fontenot (Austin, Texas) made her second start of the season and picked up the clean sheet in a six-save effort. The sophomore stopped four shots in the first half and the defense helped out with strong play from the back line to give PC its third shutout of the year.
Sara Simpson (Columbia, S.C.) led PC with three shots on goal. The Blue Hose attack pressed throughout and created nine corner kicks to Asheville's two—six in the second half. Emily Boggus (Conyers, Ga.), Parks and Peagler each contributed a shot on frame as well.
Nine PC reserves saw action in the team's win.
Asheville's Amanda Dailor fired six shots in the game and goalkeeper Heather Muller made five saves, including several strong stops.
