CONWAY, S.C.- The Presbyterian College women's soccer team was shut out by Coastal Carolina 3-0 on Wednesday night at CCU Stadium.
CCU's Shelby Evans scored in the 14th minute off an assist in the box from Kacey Kelley to give the hosts a 1-0 halftime lead. The goal was Evans' second of the season.
In the second half, Rylie Johnson scored her first goal of the season off a long shot from the right side in the 56th minute to extend the Chanticleer's lead to 2-0.
Christina Stern scored the insurance goal for Coastal in the 72nd minute on combo assists from Kelley and Evans.
The Chanticleers outshot the Blue Hose 12-8 and had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Hannah Gaither (Statesville, N.C./Statesville) tallied four shots, while Keri O'Neill (Peachtree City, Ga./Sandy Creek) and Kristen Peagler (Lithonia, Ga./Southwest DeKalb) each recorded two shots.
Sydney Fontenot (Austin, Texas/James Bowie) snagged two saves in the loss. Cadye Picklesimer (Grayson, Ga./Grayson) came in for the final ten minutes of play but was uncontested in goal. Becca Austin and Faith Farley evenly split time in goal for the Chanticleers. Austin recorded a save on Gaither's shot in the first half.
The Blue Hose continue Big South Conference play on Saturday evening when they take on Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C. at 7 p.m.
