CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College (0-2) women's basketball team will play its first home game of 2014-15 on Tuesday when the Blue Hose host the Allen Yellow Jackets (0-6) at 5 p.m. The contest kicks off a PC basketball doubleheader as the men's team hosts Piedmont at 7:30 p.m. The Blue Hose will look to capture their first win of the season following a pair of losses to Old Dominion (41-26) and VCU (55-36) over a weekend road trip to Virginia.
The Blue Hose have taken the only three matches against Allen in the all-time series, all three taking place at Templeton Center beginning in 2008-09. PC has knocked off the Yellow Jackets by an average margin of 39 points with the largest coming in a 74-29 victory on February 9, 2010. The two sides last met four years ago, when the Blue Hose came away with a 65-28 decision on November 17, 2010.
Allen will look for its first win of the season following six straight losses to open the year. The Yellow Jackets last faced South Carolina State on Friday night, falling to the Bulldogs in a 103-55 effort. Through the first five games, Allen averaged 70.4 points per game and looked to Dekoya Mack's 16.4 points per outing to lead the team on offense. Kamya Thomas also averaged 14.2 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
PC assembled a sterling first half but could not put together a win on Sunday afternoon in a 55-36 loss at VCU. Sophomore Aianna Kelly led the Blue Hose in the loss with a 12-point, 6-rebound, 3-assist performance, while freshman Cortney Storey added 11 points in her second collegiate start. PC trailed by only two points at the halftime break in a game two days after the Blue Hose dropped their season opener at Old Dominion on Friday night, 41-26.
Seven players made their collegiate debuts on Friday against Old Dominion in the season opener. Allie Wagner and Cortney Storey made their first career starts against the Lady Monarchs while Jameka Brade, Janie Miles, Elizabeth Landers, Kendra Talley and Tia Mason donned a Blue Hose jersey for the first time in the game as well. Storey started Sunday's game at VCU, scored an impressive 11 points while averaging a team-high 33 minutes over both games. She was one of only three players to start at VCU and Old Dominion, with Keyonna Allen and Aianna Kelly as the others.
Aianna Kelly made a splash in her rookie season and continued over the first two games of 2014-15. The sophomore currently leads the team in points (9.0), rebounds (8.0) and assists (1.5) per game and has made all four of her free throws.
The Blue Hose head back out on the road for a Saturday afternoon tilt at Western Carolina at 3:30 p.m. PC wraps up four road contests in the first five games on Wednesday, November 26, with a trip to Xavier at 7 p.m.
