CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team split its two matches on Saturday by blanking North Greenville at home, 7-0, after falling to USC Upstate on the road in the morning, 5-2.
PC ends the day at 3-2 and will host Delaware State and North Carolina A&T next Saturday, beginning at noon.
PC 7, North Greenville 0
After a morning loss to USC Upstate, the Blue Hose bounced back with a statement win over the visiting Crusaders. Only one match went to three sets and PC swept all three doubles contests.
The second-flight pair of Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.) and Kayla Stanford (Canton, Ga.) made quick work of Rebecca Beacham and Victoria Gomez with an 8-0 win. Lucia Leahy (Charlotte, N.C.) and Antonia Conze (Willich, Germany) followed with an 8-1 victory over Christina Kiessling and Aline Ribeiro at the third flight.
Patricia Alves (Campinas, Brazil) and Madison Utberg (Roswell, Ga.) completed the sweep by gutting out an 8-6 top-flight match over Susane Lenz and Maggie Elliott.
The Blue Hose won all six singles matches to finish the shutout. At No. 1, Alves knocked off Lenz, 6-3, 6-1. The second-flight match saw the only third set of the tilt, as deLoach pushed past Maggie Elliott in a 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 decision.
PC won two matches by 6-1, 6-1 tallies as Utberg downed Ribeiro at the third flight and Stanford knocked off Victoria Gomez at No. 6.
At No. 4, Lucia toppled Beacham in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, and Conze grabbed a fifth-flight win over Kiessling, 6-0, 6-2.

USC Upstate 5, PC 2
The day began with a hard-fought morning loss at USC Upstate, 5-2.
PC captured the doubles point with wins at the first and third flights. Utberg and Alves knocked off Rojas and Buenger convincingly at No. 3 by an 8-3 result. At the top flight, Courtney Gardiner (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) held on to knock off Isabel Von Stryk and Sarah Vande Berg in a 8-7 (7-2) thriller to put the Blue Hose ahead early.
Utberg gave PC a singles win by forfeit at the sixth flight and the Blue Hose nearly earned another at the fifth flight. Leahy gave Buenger everything she could handle put the Spartan held off Leahy in a nail-biter, 5-7, 6-4, 15-13.
deLoach came up short against Vande Berg at the fourth flight, 6-4, 6-3, and Anna Zoske pushed past Alves at the third flight, 6-2, 6-0.
The Spartans won the top two flights in 6-0, 6-0 results for the win.
