Kersten Legacki hit three home runs, including a three run shot in game one and a two-run shot in the second to lead the Presbyterian College softball team to the 9-1 and 10-2 five-inning wins over North Carolina Central in doubleheader action this afternoon at the PC Softball Complex in Clinton, S.C.
PC, which improves to 10-8 overall, is next in action Friday, Mar. 14, at S.C. State. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. N.C. Central falls to 0-17.
Legacki went a perfect six-for-six with her three home runs and three singles. She drove in eight runs, including two off a three-run homer in the fifth inning to give PC an 8-1 lead in the fifth inning. Her two run bomb in the first inning of the second game helped the Blue Hose erase a two-run NCCU lead. She added the team's seventh run with a solo shot in the fourth inning as well.
Erin Ruff provided PC with the fourth home run of the day, with her shot coming in the bottom of the first. Ruff collected two hits on the day, with her sacrifice fly in the fourth bringing home Erin Taylor for run number five in the first game. Taylor was second on the team today, going three-for-five with a RBI double in the second inning of game one.
Other Blue Hose with RBI included Courtney Lawton, who's base hit in the fifth inning of game one drove in the ninth and final run to end the game with the eight-run lead. Hope Rogers' RBI single in the fourth inning of game two scored Alyssa Goodin for the game's eighth run. Jordan Ashley also recorded a RBI in game two, hers coming off a single in the fourth inning of game two as well.
Sydney Seigler pitched a solid game one for PC, going the distance, giving up just one run off five hits, while striking out seven to move to 6-4 on the year.
Natasha Sherrod, in 4.2 innings of relief for the Blue Hose, earned her second win of the season (2-0) after throwing a three-hit shut-out with four strike-outs.
PC out-hit the Eagles, 9-5, in game one and 11-5 in the second game. After a flawless defensive effort by both teams in the first game, the Eagles recorded four in game two.
Several Eagles collected multiple hits on the day, with Dominique Wilson pacing the team with a two-for-four effort. De'Onna Smith recorded two hits as well, including a RBI double in the fourth inning of game one that drove in Wilson, who had reached off one of her two doubles
London Germ went two-for-six with a lead-off triple to open the second game. She would eventually score off a wild pitch. Smith would provide the game's second run, coming home off a wild pitch as well.
Wilson picked up the loss (0-7) for the Eagles in the first game, surrendering nine runs off nine hits. London Booker went the distance in game two for the loss (0-8). She gave up 10 runs off 11 hits, with two strikeouts.
