CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team dropped a Big South Conference match to the visiting Charleston Southern Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon, 7-0.
PC moves to 7-11-1 on the year and 0-5 in the Big South. The Blue Hose next host Wofford on Thursday at 3 p.m. Charleston Southern improves to 9-3, 4-0 in the Big South and next hosts UNC Asheville on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
With the threat of rain in the air, the two sides played singles first before doubles. In singles action, Marketa Placha won at the top flight over Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.), 6-1, 6-3, while Patricia Alves (Campinas, Brazil) fell to Yvonne Hubler, 6-0, 6-1.
Caroline Ferrari (Rome, Ga.) nearly took a set from Alexandra Walters but fell at the third flight, 6-1, 6-5, and Nicolin Luecke topped Caroline deLoach at the fourth flight, 6-1, 6-2. Lucia Leahy (Charlotte, N.C.) came up short in a close opening set to Alia Nour at No. 5, 7-5, 6-2, and Mi'Kola Cooper bested Antonia Conze (Willich, Germany) at the sixth flight, 6-0, 6-2.
In doubles action, the Buccaneers won the bottom two flights in 8-2 results and took a victory at No. 1 in an 8-3 win. At No. 1, Walters and Hubler pushed past Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) and Courtney Gardiner (Powder Springs, Ga.). Nour and Angelica Sidorenko won at No. 2 over Alves and Kayla Stanford (Canton, Ga.) while Placha and Luecke bested deLoach and Ferrari at No. 3.
