Blue Hose Football Sparkles in Spring Game

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College football team hit Crocker Field at Bailey Memorial Stadium on Saturday for its annual Spring Game, which featured an assortment of game-type situations and drills on a beautiful spring morning.

Spring practice will conclude with practice No. 15 on Tuesday.

The day began with punting drills from redshirt sophomore Stephen Doar (Landrum, S.C.) after dynamic warm-ups and stretching. The Blue Hose then headed into offense vs. defense and redshirt sophomore cornerback Kevin Crawford (Advance, N.C.) broke up an early pass, tracking the long ball and swatting it down for an incompletion.

Freshman quarterback Heys McMath (Savannah, Ga.) found junior tight end Kris Hurley (Lawrenceville, Ga.) for a long completion down the middle and connected with junior receiver Jeremiah McKie (Greenville, S.C.) on another large gain several plays later.

PC's defense made its presence known early and often. Freshman defensive lineman Kamren Mack (Lithonia, Ga.) snuck behind the line for a loss and fellow rookie lineman Matthew Mourao (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) snuffed out a quarterback keeper from freshman quarterback Will Brock (Cleveland, Ga.) soon after.

Several of the plays featured battles in the air between receivers and the secondary. Junior Tobi Antigha (Tampa, Fla.) made a leaping grab for a big gain before sophomore Snoop Byers (Gaffney, S.C.) prevented a long gain a few plays later. Sophomore Ed Britt (Greensboro, N.C.) swatted a ball down as well before sophomore Jordan Hallums (Mauldin, S.C.) picked up a reception.  Freshman Tre'von Howell (Columbia, S.C.) also located a ball quickly in the air and hauled it in for a first down. Later in the day, both McKie, Antigha and Daryl Wilson (Hendersonville, N.C.) scored on passing plays with one coming from the arm of Brock.

Freshman defensive back Alstin Wright (Simpsonville, S.C.) made two interceptions within seconds of each other. Both came off of deflections and the rookie found himself in position to pick up both turnovers. Sophomore defensive end Darius Norfleet (Memphis, Tenn.) also earned a sack by breaking through on quarterback Kaleb Griffin (Florence, S.C.), who threw numerous completions all over the field on Saturday.

The PC running backs saw a fair amount of action, too. Freshman Darrell Bridges (Rossville, Ga.) broke off a solid run inside as the defense looked to keep the running game bottled up. Freshman kicker Brett Wilson (Apopka, Fla.) finished some drills by booting field goals from nearly 40 yards out and the practice ended with punt plays.
