Two home runs by the Camels proved to be the difference as Campbell earned the 2-1 win over the Presbyterian College softball team in an elimination game of the Big South Tournament Friday night in Conway, S.C.
PC ends its season at 26-26, while the Camels improve to 31-26 and advance to face #1 seed Coastal Carolina Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
The Blue Hose collected two hits on the night, with Jill McLean recording one after posting her seventh a triple of the season with a shot down the right field line with two outs in the third.
Blaire Miller, in just her second start of the season, recorded the other hit, a solo home run in the sixth to tie the game at 1-1. The shot over the left field wall marked her first career home run and just her second hit of the season.
Campbell came away with six hits, as Kerstine Womack and Olivia Scarborough led the way with two apiece. Milly Martinet had just one hit in the game, but it was a big one in the fourth inning. Her solo home run gave the Camels the 1-0 lead.
Scarborough provided the game-winner with another home run, this one a solo shot over the center field wall in the bottom of the sixth to give the Camels a 2-1 lead, which would eventually turn into the one-run win.
Katie Brown started in the circle for PC, going 3.1 innings and giving up three hits and one run. Kensley Loudermelk came in relief, giving up one run off three hits to move to 4-8 on the year.
Courtney Roberts pitched six innings for Campbell to earn the win. She surrendered just one run off two hits and struck out two. Katie Baker came in relief for an inning to pick up the save after retiring the Blue Hose side in order to end the game.
