PC Falls to Mercer 2-1

MACON, GA- The Presbyterian College women's soccer team fell to Mercer in Macon, Ga. on Sunday afternoon, 2-1.

PC's Keri O'Neill (Peachtree City, Ga./Sandy Creek H.S.) scored the first goal of the game in the opening three minutes when she put in a rebound off a PC free kick to give the Blue Hose a quick 1-0 lead. Mercer's Lauren Gassie responded just two minutes later with a goal off a short pass from Brianna Stampler. The game remained tied 1-1 through the half.

Gassie scored the game-winning goal, her second of the game and third of the season, near the 65-minute mark off an assist from Washida Blackman to put the Bears up 2-1 for the remainder of the game.

Sydney Fontenot Austin, Texas/James Bowie H.S.) took the loss in goal for the Blue Hose, recording four saves. Mercer's Cristina Mursuli played in goal for the first half, allowing O'Neill's goal and making two saves. Maggie Cropp came in for the entire second half, recording two saves and earning the win in goal.

Mercer held a 20-9 shot advantage over the Blue Hose, as well as a 10-2 corner kick advantage.

The Blue Hose will return home on Sept. 19 to host SC State at Martin Stadium at 7 p.m.
