ATLANTA, GA.: The Presbyterian College men's soccer team could not overcome a 1-0 first half deficit as the Georgia State Panthers defeated the Blue Hose 1-0 Tuesday evening at GSU's Soccer Complex.
GSU's Cory Plasker scored his first goal of the season in the 31st minute when PC goalkeeper Johnny Archer misfired his throw, giving Plasker the opportunity to take advantage of the loose ball.
PC was held to only three shots in the second half and unable to produce a goal of its own.
Ignacio Monchetti (Montevideo, Uruguay/Mauldin H.S.), Mason Lewis (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach H.S.), and Tommy Erwood (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley North H.S.) each registered two shots to lead the offensive effort for the Blue Hose.
The Panthers led the Blue Hose in total shots 16-9, as well as corner kicks 8-3. Fouls were evenly split between the teams, 16-16.
Georgia State now holds a 4-1-0 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams.
Archer took the loss in goal for the Blue Hose. He recorded four saves and allowed the lone first-half goal. CJ Cochran made three saves in goal for the Panthers.
The Blue Hose will head to Spartanburg to take on USC Upstate in its third consecutive away game on Sept. 20 before returning home on Tuesday Sept. 23 to host Georgia Southern at Martin Stadium.
