PC will look for its second win over a Southern Conference opponent after September 13's win over Furman and will play its first day game of the season on Saturday. Western Carolina won its third straight game with its own victory over Furman on Saturday, 35-17. The two sides last met in 2008 when the Catamounts edged PC, 23-21, for their eighth straight win in the series. PC hopes to snap the streak and pick up its first win since 1969, when the Blue Hose topped the Catamounts in a 1969 win. Saturday's game also marks the program's first day game of the 2014 season after four straight night contests.
Zeta Tau Alpha will hold its annual Pink Out day on Saturday to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research.
PC held NC State to only seven points through the first 28 minutes of its road test on September 20, but the Wolfpack pulled away for a 42-0 win at Carter-Finley Stadium. The Wolfpack led 7-0 before scoring twice in the final two minutes of the second quarter. The home team added 21 points in the second half en route to the win despite PC holding the ball for 37:46 of game time.
PC earned 15 votes in this week's FCS The Sports Network poll. The votes place the Blue Hose ahead of other South Carolina programs South Carolina State and Wofford. Western Carolina checks in with eight votes.
Western Carolina dropped its season opener at USF by only five points, 36-31, before winning its next three over Brevard, Catawba and Furman. The Catamounts boast the 19th-best scoring offense in the nation, averaging 37.8 points and 414.8 yards of offense per game. Darius Ramsey (78.8 rush ypg) and Troy Mitchell (230.0 pass ypg, 68.8 completion pct.) pace the office while Ace Clark (37 tackles) and Christon Gill (34 tackles) lead the defense.
Senior wideout Tobi Antigha caught a team-high six balls for a game-high 61 yards against NC State. The yardage gave Antigha 987 for his career, passing Brandon Clark (2007-08) for fifth-most in PC's Division I history. He needs just 13 to break the 1,000-yard receiving plateau. Antigha had only made seven catches through the first three games, nearly doubling his receptions and yardage in game number four against NC State on Saturday. Antigha also ranks second in the Big South in punt return average (13.6) and punt return yards (95).
Sophomore quarterback Heys McMath rushed a career-high 10 times against the Wolfpack. The quarterback made his 10th collegiate appearance on September 20 and has only committed one turnover on the season, an interception in the season opener on August 28 against Northern Illinois.
Junior defensive lineman Darius Norfleet registered a sack against NC State, his second of the season. The Blue Hose have posted at least one sack in all four games this season.
Following this Saturday's game, PC stays at home to host No. 3 Coastal Carolina on Saturday, October 11 at 2 p.m.
