Yoss Scores Four Goals to Lead PC to Victory

CLINTON, S.C.- Freshman Sarah Yoss (Peachtree City, Ga./Starr's Mill H.S.) scored four second-half goals to lead the Presbyterian College women's soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Alabama State on Sunday afternoon at Martin Stadium.

Alabama State's Aaliyah Lewis scored the first goal of the game just shortly before intermission off an assist from Iita Pienimaki to put the Hornets (3-3) up 1-0 at the break, but the Blue Hose (2-2) scored five unanswered goals in the second half in a time span of only 15 minutes to steal the game from the visitors.

Yoss sparked the Blue Hose second-half scoring attack in the 65th minute when she scored off a pass from teammate Keri O'Neill (Peachtree City, Ga./Sandy Creek H.S.) to tie the game 1-1.

Presbyterian's Sophie Cobb (Columbia, S.C./Cardinal Newman H.S.) scored her first goal of the season just two minutes later off an unassisted free kick to put the Blue Hose up 2-1, a lead they would not relinquish.

Yoss tallied her second goal of the match off an assist from Catie Smith (Greenville, S.C./J.L. Mann H.S.) in the 73rd minute of regulation play.

Kozera connected with Yoss shortly later in the 76th minute for Yoss to pick up her first collegiate hat-trick.

Yoss scored her fourth and final goal of the game in the 79th minute to give the Blue Hose their first home victory of the season.

Presbyterian had a 27-9 shot advantage, as well as a 4-3 corner kick advantage over Alabama State.

Sydney Fontenot (Austin, Texas/James Bowie H.S.) came in to play the entire second half to earn the win in goal for PC. Freshman Cadye Picklesimer (Grayson, Ga./Grayson H.S.) made her collegiate debut in goal, starting in the first half, recording three saves and allowing one goal. Alabama State's Kylee Hathaway had nine saves but took the loss for the visitors.

The Blue Hose hits the road on Sunday, Sept. 14 to take on Mercer for a 2 p.m. non-conference matchup.
