CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team fell just short against Longwood, 3-2 Wednesday at Martin Stadium.
The Blue Hose went to 6-8-0, 2-4-0 in the Big South Conference, while the Lancers improved to 7-5-2, 3-1-2 on the season.
PC took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute. Frances Whitesides (Lancaster, Ga.) sent a ball over the top and behind the defense. Stephanie Lee (Suwanee, Ga.) collected the ball and scored just outside the 18-yard box for her fourth of the season.
Longwood scored the next three goals. Olivia Colella also sent a ball behind the defense that Amanda Spencer tied the match on in the 24th minute. Colella then collected a goal of her own in the 68th minute on a loss ball in the box.
Bridget Bergquist scored the eventual game winner in the 77th minute with a pass from Amanda Spencer inside the 18.
In the 88th minute, Sophie Cobb (Columbia, S.C.) gathered an attempted clear that she dribbled to the right, around a defender, and fired a shot just outside the 18 that found the back of the net for her fifth of the season.
Sydney Fontenot (Austin, Texas) corralled four saves for the Blue Hose. Fontenot's 216 career saves makes her the second all-time career saves leader in school history.
Presbyterian turns around, on short rest, to play Charleston Southern 4 p.m. Thursday in Charleston, S.C.
