The Presbyterian College softball team blasted 10 runs off 13 hits, while holding Gardner-Webb to just four hits, en route to a 10-1 win in Big South action Wednesday afternoon at the PC Softball Complex in Clinton, S.C. With the win the Blue Hose take the series, 2-1, after splitting with the Runnin' Bulldogs this past week.
PC, which improves to 14-11 overall and 4-1 in the league, hits the road for the next nine contests, starting with a three-game set at Longwood Mar. 28-29. The Blue Hose play a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday. First pitches both days are at 1 p.m. Gardner-Webb drops to 9-17, 3-6.
Kensley Loudermelk (8-3) pitched a solid game, giving up just four hits and one run, that coming off a solo home run by Rachel Cumiskey in the top of the fourth inning. Loudermelk went 5.0 innings, striking out four and walking just one.
Leading the offensive onslaught for PC was Jill McLean, who went a perfect four-for-four, collecting a hit in each inning, while scoring two runs.
Kersten Legacki went two-for-three, with a RBI single in the first inning. Also with RBI singles in the first were Hope Rogers, who was two-for three on the day, and Erin Taylor, who finished the game with two RBI and two hits. Erin Ruff posted one of her two hits of the game in the first as well, as the Blue Hose took an early 4-0 lead.
PC loaded the bases in the third off two base hits and a walk. Jenna Harris collected her sixth RBI of the season after drawing a walk as well. With the bases still loaded, Shelby Petik made her only hit of the game matter, clearing the bases with her second triple of the season, this one to center as PC opened up a 9-0 lead.
Leading 9-1 in the bottom of fourth, Taylor made it a nine-run game again with her fourth home run of the season, this one over the right field fence.
Leading GWU was Kellie Beres, who went two-for-three with a single in the third and fifth innings. Summer Darnell took the loss for the Runnin' Bulldogs (7-7), going 2.2 innings and surrendering eight earned runs off nine hits.
