FARMVILLE, VA.- Longwood cranked three solo home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to push past the Presbyterian College softball team, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon in the final Big South Conference game of the series at Lancer Field.
With the loss, PC drops to 15-13 overall and 5-3 in Big South play. Longwood moves to 12-18 on the year and 6-3 in conference action.
The first three innings of the contest remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning, when Hope Rogers ripped a double to right center that scored Erin Ruff and Kersten Legacki and gave the Blue Hose a 2-run lead over the Lancers.
Casey Lifsey flied out to center field in the bottom of the fifth, but scored Glenn Walters, who had a triple one at-bat earlier to make the score 2-1.
Longwood scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kelsey Sweeney, Taylor Hedrick, and Megan Baltzell, whose big-hits doomed PC in game two yesterday, all smacked solo homers to take over the game.
Longwood had seven hits to PC's five. Ruff, Legacki, Rogers, Jill McLean, and Jordan Ashley all had one hit apiece for the Blue Hose.
Sydney Seigler pitched 5.1 innings. She fanned two and allowed five hits in the loss. Kensley Loudermelk came in for relief in the sixth inning and struck out two batters.
