The Presbyterian College softball team used a two-run first inning and added home runs by Erin Taylor and Erin Ruff to take the 4-2 win over Coastal Carolina in the final game of a three-game series in Conway, S.C.
PC improved to 22-21 overall and 10-9 in the league, while Coastal Carolina dropped to 31-22, 16-7. PC rounds out the regular season at home May 2-3, with a three-game series against Campbell. The two teams meet in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday before playing a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
Jenna Harris led off the Blue Hose effort with a base hit early in the first inning. After advancing to second on a CCU error, she scored off a single by Erin Ruff, who ended the day three-of-four. Ruff plated the next at-bat off a Kersten Legacki double to give PC the 2-0 lead.
Coastal Carolina responded with a sacrifice fly by Amanda Daneker that brought home Bri Chiusano, who led off the inning with a single to short, and CCU made it a one-run game.
Taylor gave PC the two-run lead in the second with a solo home run, her seventh of the season, while Ruff's team-leading eighth home run of the year, this one in the fifth, gave the Blue Hose a 4-1 lead.
The Chanticleers cut the lead to two in the sixth with a home run by Sara Rasley, but that would be as close as they would get, falling by the final, 4-2 score.
PC finished with 10 hits, with Ruff leading the day with her three-for-four effort and two RBI. Legacki and Harris added two hits in the game.
Sydney Seigler earned the start and win for PC (5-10) after throwing 4.0 innings and surrendering just one earned run off four hits. Kensley Loudermelk picked up the save (3) after going 3.0 innings with one run off one hit.
