PC Drops Series to Campbell

Campbell held the PC softball team to just one hit, while recording 16 hits, en route to the 8-1 win in the regular season finale for both teams Sunday afternoon at the PC Softball Complex.

PC drops to 22-24 overall and 10-12 in the league, while Campbell improves to 28-25, 8-15.  Both teams are off until the Big South Tournament to be held May 7-10 in Buies Creek, N.C.

The Camels struck first in the third game of the series, starting off with back to back singles with two outs in the top of the second.  Melissa Tullar cleared the bases the next at-bat with a double to right, leading Campbell to the early 2-0 lead.

Campbell struck out again in the third with three straight singles, the last, from Brittany Bruce, resulted in the third run of the game coming home as the Camels went up 3-0.

The visitors loaded the bases in the top of the fourth, with a Erick Nesbitt driving in the fourth run off a RBI ground out to third.  Two more runs plated after Stephanie Jones laced a double to left to lead Campbell to a 6-0 lead.

After a PC error in the top of the fifth scored Campbell's seventh run of the game, the Blue Hose opened the bottom of the frame with a walk.  It was the first base runner for PC as Julia Callicut had retired the side in order the first four innings.

Hope Rogers produced PC's first and only hit and RBI of the game with a double to right, bringing home Erin Ruff to make it 7-1 after five innings.

A single and double by Campbell put runners on second and third with no one out but a pop up by the Camels put one out on the board.  The next batter hit a shot at third but Legacki was there to make the tag and gun the out at first as well for a clutch double-play to end the inning and threat.

A RBI single by Maggie Christopher gave the Camels an 8-1 lead, which became final after Callicutt retired the side for the second straight inning in the bottom of the seventh.

Callicutt dominated for the second straight game for the win (14-8).  She gave up just one hit, one run, while striking out seven.  Leading the Camels on offense was Jones and Tullar, both of whom recorded three hits and two RBI.

Kensley Loudermelk threw 3.2 innings for PC to pick up the loss (12-9).  She surrendered six runs off nine hits.
