Three straight goals lift Jacksonville over Blue Hose

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team nearly completed a perfect weekend in Florida but Jacksonville stopped it with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Blue Hose Sunday at Southern Oak Stadium.

The Blue Hose fall to 1-2 on the young season, while the Dolphins go to 1-2-1 on the year.

Freshman Mallory Hopkins (Monroe, N.C.) picked up her first career goal in the fifth minute with a strike from 12 yards out that beat the defender.

In the 21st minute, Sarah Yoss (Peachtree City, Ga.) netted a goal off a deflected shot from Stephanie Lee to give the Blue Hose a 2-0 lead.

The Dolphins battled back from a 2-0 deficit with three straight goals. Marie Weckhurst beat the goalie in the 23rd minute with a give-and-go in the 18-yard bow from Joelle d'Entremont. Cassie Elmore struck from 20 yards out in the 69th minute to even the score. PC handled the ball in the box in the 76th minute and Weckhurst converted the penalty kick for the game winner and her second of the match.

Lee took four shots with two on frame, while Hopkins and Ashlynn Powell (Simpsonville, S.C.) both took two shots and both on goal.

Cadye Picklesimer (Grayson, Ga.) picked up eight saves in her first action of the year.

Presbyterian returns home 7 p.m. Friday to host Wofford.
