CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College scored a season high three goals in a 3-1 victory over USC Upstate Friday night at Martin Stadium. PC cracked the .500 mark for the first time this season.
The Blue Hose women's soccer team scored twice in the first half and once in the second half to improve to 3-2-0 on the year, while the Spartans fell to 1-5-1.
Freshman Kelsey Yeager (Greenville, S.C.) collected her first collegiate goal off a corner kick from Louise McGirt in the 15th minute to give the Blue Hose a 1-0 lead. Maddy Clark (Mooresville, N.C.) sent a through ball behind the defense that Chandler Carter (Jackson, Ga.) ran on to and beat the goalie for her first of the year in the 28th minute.
Sophie Cobb added the third goal in the 77th minute for her first of the season. Upstate's goalie saved Cobb's first shot before she collected the rebound and chipped a shot over the keepers' hands.
The Spartans' Kate Winegarner scored her second goal of the year in the 88th minute inside the 18-yard box.
The Blue Hose held a 17-11 shot advantage while owning a 12-6 shots on goal advantage.
Senior Sydney Fontenot (Austin, Texas) gathered four saves in more than 84 minutes of scoreless play. Cadye Picklesimer (Grayson, Ga.) allowed one goal and collected one save in 5:35 minutes.
