Women?s Tennis Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - The Presbyterian College women's tennis team swept two road matches on Saturday at Jacksonville State and Alabama A&M to improve to 4-0 on the season. The Blue Hose opened the day with 7-0 victory over Jacksonville State, before topping Alabama A&M, 6-1, in the later match.

The Blue Hose are off to their best start in the Division I era, starting 4-0 for the first time since moving up in 2008. The previous best to open a season was 3-0, coming as recently as last season. The four-match winning streak ties for the longest since last season when PC won four straight in early March.

In the opening match of the day against the Gamecocks, PC took two of the three doubles matches to grab an early 1-0 lead. Nicole Croxton and Celine Schepers claimed a 7-5 victory at No. 2 and Claire-Mitchell Andrews and Tracy Johnson earned a 6-2 win at No. 3.

The Blue Hose would then sweep all six singles matches for the 7-0 victory. Schepers won her second straight match with 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1, while Caroline Ferrari won her second singles match of the season with a tight 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 2.

Johnson continued her strong play with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 3, as Andrews and Croxton each claimed the matches at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Brittany Nuttall would then cap off the victory with comeback, three-set win at No. 4 to make it a clean sweep.

In the afternoon match against Alabama A&M, PC Croxton and Schepers earned a win at No. 1 doubles, 7-5, while A&M won at No. 2, 6-4 to even it out. PC took the third and deciding match by default, as Alabama A&M played shorthanded.

In singles, PC won three of the four matches that were played, while taking the matches at No. 5 and No. 6 by default. Schepers earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 and Johnson remained perfect on the season with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2. Demi Henschel earned her first victory of the season with a strong 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.

PC is back in action in Alabama again tomorrow with a match against Alabama State in Montgomery, Ala. at 1 p.m. ET
