ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis fell to Winthrop, 7-0, in its second Big South match of the year on Thursday afternoon at Memorial Courts in Rock Hill, S.C. PC is back in action at home on Friday with a match against North Carolina A&T at 1:30 p.m. at the Templeton Tennis Courts.
Winthrop (3-1, 1-0 Big South) claimed the doubles points with wins on courts one and three to take a 1-0 match lead over PC (6-4, 0-2 Big South). Claire-Mitchell Andrews and Tracy Johnson earned a 6-2 win on court two to improve to 6-1 on the season as a pair. The Eagles' Lauren Proctor and Mariana Humberg earned a 6-1 win at No. 1 and Caitlin Cridland and Megan Kaufmann won 6-2 at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, Winthrop continued their success from doubles, taking each of the matches for the victory. The closest matches of the day came on courts five and six with each one going to three sets.
Andrews dropped set one at No. 5, 6-3, but took the second set, 7-5, to force the decisive third-set tiebreaker. Winthrop's Tijana Uzelac would end up taking the third-set for 2-1 match win. Nicole Croxton claimed set one on court one, 6-3, before Winthrop's Monica Aguado won the second set, 6-1. Aguado would end up claiming the third-set tiebreaker to take the match.
