In a defensive game for both teams, Jacksonville hit a two-run home run in the fifth to rally back from a one run deficit, caused by a solo home run from Blue Hose Megan Anderson in the second, to take the 2-1 win over the Presbyterian College softball team in the final game of the JU Green and Gold Classic at Pruitt Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
PC falls to 6-5, after going 2-2 in tournament, while the Dolphins move to 9-7 on the year. The Blue Hose head to Savannah, Ga., Wednesday, Mar. 2, to take on Savannah State for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
Anderson opened the second inning with her first career home run, this one to right, and the game's first hit, to give PC the early 1-0 lead.
The next hit for either team came from PC with two outs in the top of the third when Madison Longanecker hit a grounder to third, which she just beat out at first. The next batter grounded out to third to end the inning.
Sable Lee gave the Dolphins their first hit with a single in the bottom of the third but that was it with the last at-bat popping out.
The Blue Hose threatened in the top of the fourth with Erin Ruff reaching first off a single up the middle. The next batter hit into a double play to end the inning, however.
Victoria Brown laced a single to shortstop to open the bottom of the fifth, with the Dolphins getting on the board two outs later with a two-run home run by Kristen Griffith to make it 2-1.
With two outs on the board in the top of the sixth, Hope Rogers hit an infield single, but Ruff's long fly to right was just short of the fence and caught to end the inning.
Ciara Jones led off the bottom of the inning with a single up the middle, with Danielle Baker getting her to second off a bunt single. Heather Roberts flied out to center next at-bat with Kelsie Sanchez gunning out the runner going for third for the second out. A strike out swinging ended the inning with the threat ended.
PC put a runner on second in the top of the seventh off a single by Anderson and a stolen base by Jonnie Petree, but the next two batters grounded out and was tagged out on an interference to end the game with JU taking the 2-1 win.
Sydney Seigler pitched a solid game in the loss (2-4), surrendering just two runs off five hits with two strikeouts. Victoria Brown took the win for JU (6-3), giving up one run off five hits and striking out four.
Both team posted five hits apiece and no errors, with Anderson leading the team with two and one RBI. Five different players posted hits for the Dolphins.
