The Coastal Carolina softball team scored three runs off three home runs to take the 3-0 win over Presbyterian College in the third and final game of the series Monday morning at the PC Softball Complex in Clinton, S.C. Natasha Sherrod came in relief and threw 4.2 scoreless innings to keep the game close.
PC drops to 15-12 overall and 1-2 in the Big South, while Coastal improves to 15-14, 2-1. The Blue Hose host Winthrop Wednesday, March 23, in a 2 p.m., doubleheader.
Coastal Carolina collected 11 hits on the day, with three of them solo home runs. The first was from Annie Robinson in the second inning, with the other two coming in the third off the bats of Kelsey Dominik and Kailey Mellen. Dominik and Robinson, along with Angela Buccilli, would lead the team with two hits apiece.
Dominik earned the win for the Chanticleers as well, throwing a complete game shut-out to move to 10-7 on the season. She gave up just four hits, with three strikeouts.
Katie Brown took the loss (8-5) after surrendering three runs off five hits in 2.1 innings. Sherrod, in relief, went 4.2 innings, giving up six hits, and no runs, with a career-high tying four strikeouts.
Recording PC's four hits were Erin Ruff and Megan Anderson, each with two apiece. Ruff's came off a double in the third and a single in the seventh, with Anderson posting two singles, in the second and first.
Each team recorded an error in the game.
