PC Tops Longwood, 4-3, for Big South Victory

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team picked up its first conference win of the season with 4-3 win at Longwood on Saturday morning in Farmville, Va. PC improves to 11-5 overall and 1-2 in the Big South, while the Lancers drop to 3-11 and 0-6 in the Big South.

Longwood claimed an early lead in the match, taking the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The Lancers won 6-1 at No. 1 and 6-3 at No. 3 to clinch the point, before Nicole Croxton and Tracy Johnson earned a 7-6 (7-4) court two to close out doubles.

In singles, the Blue Hose took four of the six matches en route to the victory. Johnson evened the match at 1-1 with a 7-5, 6-1 victory on court one. Longwood pulled back in front with a win on court three but Beth Taylor retied the match with a 6-1, 7-5 victory on court one. Katie Thompson then gave PC the lead at 3-2 with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court six. Croxton then clinched the match in PC's favor with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court four to give PC a 4-2 advantage at the time.

PC will look for another conference win on Sunday, as it faces Liberty at noon in Lynchburg, Va.
