PC Falls to NJIT in Regular Season Finale

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team fell to NJIT, 4-2, in the final regular season match of the season for the Blue Hose at the Templeton Tennis Courts on Friday morning in Clinton, S.C. The Blue Hose fall to 12-10 on the season, while NJIT improved to 7-11 overall.

The Highlanders claimed the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. PC claimed the first match, as Tracy Johnson and Nicole Croxton teamed up for a 6-0 win on court one. NJIT took the remaining two matches with a 6-4 win at No. 3 and a 7-5 win at No. 2 to take the 1-0 match lead.

In singles, PC evened the match immediately, as the Highlanders defaulted the match at No. 6. NJIT retook the lead with a win at No. 4, but Beth Taylor got a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 2 to even the match at 2-2. NJIT then made it 3-2 with a win on court three with the final two matches of the day headed to three sets.

Tracy Johnson and Beth Taylor each headed to a third set on courts one and five, respectively. Johnson dropped the opening set, 7-5, before taking the second, 6-2. Ultimately, NJIT's Rafaella Sampaio took the final set to clinch the match for the Highlanders, 4-2. Thompson also dropped the opening set, 6-2, before winning the second, 6-2, but the match went unfinished with the score tied 3-3 in the third.

The Blue Hose will open play in the Big South tournament on Thursday in Winston-Salem, N.C. Seedings and matchups for the opening round are still to be determined.
