Blue Hose Falter Against Radford, 2-0

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team fell to Radford, 2-0, on Wednesday night at Martin Stadium behind a pair of first half goals from Jasmine Casarez. The Blue Hose move to 7-7 overall and 2-6 in Big South play, while the Highlanders improve to a league-best 11-2-1 and 7-1.

How It Happened

Caroline Dipzinski made an excellent pass in the 14th minute of the game to find Megan Archer whose sharp-angle shot sailed just wide of goal.

Casarez put the Highlanders ahead at the 23:57 mark after a Nelia Perez cross deflected off the hands of a diving Alyssa Leaman and fell into her path. The visitor's leading scorer notched her seventh of the year to put them ahead 1-0.

Just three minutes later, at 26:35, Casarez found side netting from 18 yards out off a cross from Emily Dunn to make it 2-0.

At the half, Radford led on shots 12-5 and 4-1 on corners. Leaman had three saves off Radford's five shots on goal.

The Blue Hose did not go away quietly nor did the Highlanders stop pressing for a third goal in the second half. Quality chances appeared early for Kori Lawrence and Radford's Emily Cardoso.

Peyton Patterson forced a save from Courtenay Kaplan in the 71st minute with a curling shot that nearly snuck in on the back post.

The Blue Hose then took four straight corners from 72:42 to 78:45 highlighted by a firm, low shot from outside the box by Morgan Hutchison that looked to challenge Kaplan before being blocked by traffic and deflected out of bounds.

One of PC's best chances of the game came off a free kick from Kelsey Yeager at the 82:20 mark. The senior sent the ball towards the back post and into traffic. Kaplan kept the ball out of the upper 90, but it bounced around the six-yard box and goal line before being cleared.

The Blue Hose nearly matched the visitor's shot total, winning the second half 13-5 and only trailing by two for the game, 20-18. PC's six second half corners gave them a 7-4 advantage for the game.

Up Next

PC travels to USC Upstate for the regular season's penultimate game on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Blue Hose will then have Senior Night on Tuesday, Oct. 23, before squaring off against UNC Asheville in a makeup game.
