Hopkins Scores Twice as PC Wins 5-1

CLINTON, S.C. – Senior Mallory Hopkins scored a pair of first half goals and the Presbyterian College women's soccer team (6-5, 1-4 Big South) easily defeated the Hampton Pirates (1-7-1, 0-4-1) by a final score of 5-1 at Martin Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

Just six minutes into the game, Hopkins got on the end of a leading pass from Preston Robinette to score a fast-break goal and put PC up 1-0. She then extended the lead to 2-0 with her fourth goal of the year in the 22nd minute heading in a long pass from Kristen Bane.

PC played much of the first half on offense, leading on shots 9-3 and on corner kicks 2-1 at the break. The second half saw the home team continue to control all aspects of the game.

Freshman Kori Lawrence scored in the 49th minute off a corner kick from Emma Gray. The kick went to the back post, was headed down by senior Kelsey Yeager and Lawrence was able to knock it past the goalie from just a few feet out.

Less than five minutes later, Lawrence took a shot that was blocked by a defender and fell to Caroline Dipzinski. She took a low, hard shot that went through the keeper's legs and made it 4-0. It was Dipzinski's first collegiate goal.

In the 68th minute, Samantha Fink was tackled in the box by the Pirates' goalkeeper. Robinette converted the penalty kick to bring the score to 5-0.

Hampton lined up for a free kick on the corner of the 18-yard box with 11 minutes left in the game. Ayana Garvin passed it center to Lauren Frick who scored on a low shot through traffic to make it 5-1.
