PC Defeats Western Carolina, 4-3, on Sunday

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis earned a road victory at Western Carolina on Sunday afternoon with a 4-3 win over the Catamounts in Cullowhee, N.C. The Blue Hose improved to 4-3 on the year, while WCU fell to 2-3.

The Blue Hose opened the match two wins in doubles action to claim the point. Beth Taylor opened play with a 6-3 win at No. 3 to give PC the advantage, before Western Carolina took a 6-2 win at No. 1 to even things. Demi Henschel and Samantha Calais clinched the doubles point for PC with a 6-4 at No. 2.

The two sides would then split the six singles matches. Taylor remained unbeaten with a 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 to improve to 7-0 on the year. Henschel then won her second straight in singles with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 6 to give PC a 3-0 lead.

Western Carolina drew closer with three-set wins on courts two and four to make it a 3-2 match. Katie Thompson clinched it for PC though with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 5. WCU ended the match with a tight end on court one, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), to make the final score, 4-3.

The Blue Hose return to action on Friday, hosting Kennesaw State at the Templeton Tennis Courts for a 3 p.m. match.
