PC Falls at Winthrop in Big South Opener

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team dropped its Big South opener to reigning conference champion Winthrop, 6-1, on Tuesday afternoon in Rock Hill, S.C. The Blue Hose fall to 5-4, while the Eagles improve to 5-2 on the year.

Winthrop swept the three doubles matches to claim the point for the 1-0 match lead. In singles, the Eagles came out on top in five of the six matches en route to the victory. Beth Taylor managed the lone PC point with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 4 to remain unbeaten on the season at 9-0.

PC forced a third set on courts three and five. Samantha Calais took the opening set, 6-4, before Winthrop's Megan Kauffman evened it up by taking the second, 6-3. Kauffman would take the third-set tiebreaker, 1-0 (10-6), to take the match. On five, WU's Aida Kelic and PC's Caroline Ferrari traded 6-0 sets to draw to a third with Kelic taking the edge, 6-3, to take the match.

PC returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Fort Collins, Colo. to take on Colorado State at 1 p.m. ET
