The Gardner-Webb softball team rallied from a two-run deficit with a four-run fourth inning to take the 6-4 win over Presbyterian College in Big South action Friday afternoon in Boiling Springs, N.C. The two teams square off in a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m.
GWU 6, PC 4
Gardner-Webb got on the board first off a RBI groundout by Katie Prebble in the bottom of the first. PC tied it up with a RBI single by Macy Hyatt in the top of the fourth. The Blue Hose took the lead the next at-bat off a GWU error and went up 3-1 when Presley Bissett delivered a sacrifice fly. The lead was short-lived with the Runnin' Bulldogs spotting four runs in the bottom of the fourth, the first coming off a RBI single by Annamarie Warley. Maddi Johnson followed with a RBI single, with Andria Booth making it 5-3 off a two-RBI single up the middle. A RBI groundout by Katie Stettler made it 6-3 in the fifth, with Bissett adding a RBI single in the top of the sixth to make it 6-4.
Megan Anderson led the team in hits with two, while Bissett paced the squad in RBI with two. Kaylee Allen (0-11) went 4.0 innings, surrendering seven hits and five earned runs. Booth led GWU with three this and two RBI. Ashley Wark (11-7) pitched a complete game for the Runnin' Bulldogs, surrendering three earned runs and five hits.
Gardner-Webb recorded six runs off eight hits, with four errors, while PC posted four runs off five hits, with no errors.
For the Record
PC drops to 2-21 overall and 0-1 in the Big South, while Gardner-Webb improves to 18-12, 2-2.
