PC Tops Gardner-Webb, 5-2, to Wrap Up Big South Action

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team concluded Big South play on Tuesday afternoon, topping Gardner-Webb, 5-2, at the Templeton Tennis Courts. PC improves to 10-8 overall on the year with a program-record 4-4 Big South record, while the Runnin' Bulldogs dropped to 3-13 and 0-7 in the Big South.

GWU managed an early lead in the match by taking the doubles point. Tracy Johnson and Caroline Ferrari got things started with a 6-4 victory at No. 2 but Gardner-Webb came away with courts three and one to go up 1-0.

PC answered in singles play, taking five of the six matches for the win. Ferrari kicked things off with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 and Johnson followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2. Katie Thompson then made it 3-1 PC with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6, before Samantha Calais clinched the match, recording a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 4 to give PC a 4-1 lead.

After a GWU win at No. 3 made it 4-2, Brittany Nuttall closed it out with a three-set victory at No. 1, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, for a final score of 5-2.

PC finishes Big South play with four wins, a new high-water mark for the program, and a .500 mark against Big South foes, also a program high since joining the league.

The Blue Hose conclude the regular season with a Senior Day match against Newberry, now set for Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
