Clinton, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women's soccer team (0-1) fell in a hard-fought game to Furman University (3-0) on Thursday night at Martin Stadium. The Paladins' Claudia Murphy scored the game's lone goal off a cross from MG Farr in the 61st minute.

How It Happened

Just seventy seconds into the game, the Blue Hose were awarded a penalty kick following a foul in the box after a PC corner kick. Sophomore Preston Robinette's shot was then saved by a diving Kellsey Weaver to keep the game scoreless.

Furman went on to take seven shots in the first half and forced four saves from freshman Megan Serrano. At the half, the Paladins led on shots 7-3 and on corners 3-2. Weaver also saved a shot from Kelsey Yeager at 13:10 to reach two saves in the first half.

The Paladin's Margaret Swain nearly scored the game's first goal with a shot that hit the crossbar in the 49th minute. Serrano, who tallied six saves on the night, corralled a follow-up shot from Hannah Carroll to keep the game scoreless.

Murphy broke the deadlock in the 61st minute by getting on the end of a cross from outside the box from Farr. It was Murphy's second goal of the season and first game winner.

Game Notes

The Blue Hose held Furman to just one goal after the Paladins averaged 5.5 goals over their first two wins.

Freshman Megan Serrano made six saves in her collegiate debut.

Furman's Allie Cutler got the win after 45 minutes of scoreless action and one save on the game's last shot.
